As the scrimmage for home court advantage in the playoffs intensifies, so does campaigning. With just a handful of regular season games remaining, the battle for a playoff berth isn’t the only agenda on the Houston Rockets’ minds. The MVP race this season is the closest it has been for some time. LeBron James has maintained a stranglehold on the award for the past five years, the only recipient during that time outside of James was Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls.
Stephen Curry, James Harden, LeBron James and Russell Westbrook are all in contention this season, and at this point, any one of them could go home with the MVP trophy. So what does the GM of an MVP candidate do? Naturally stir the pot. The Rockets posted this image to social media after the Rockets defeated the Cavaliers, which Morey promptly re-tweeted.
Daryl Morey has been quoted earlier in the season saying “without James, we are nowhere basically.” However, Morey’s antics have not gone unnoticed. Steve Kerr, the head coach of Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors, offered up his thoughts on Morey’s campaign for Harden. Per. Ethan Strauss of ESPN.
Considering Houston have only progressed past the first round of the playoffs once in over 15 years, Kerr may just have a point.
